Rescuers are continuing efforts to locate more than 1,500 missing people, among them hundreds of foreign tourists, after a deadly flood killed at least 270 people on the Nepal-Tibet border.
Satellite images taken before and after the flooding show the scale of the destruction. Entire settlements have vanished under mud, water, and rock.
The wall of water has swallowed up everything in its path.
A Greek man living in Nepal gave a harrowing account to MEGA, describing the dramatic scenes that unfolded in the region.
“With the first light of day, you could really see the scale of the disaster. The river has calmed down a bit now, and entire villages and towns have been buried in mud. It’s a huge tragedy for Nepal. We already know we’re going to be mourning thousands of people. The death toll has reached 270. Every helicopter Nepal has, private and military, is in the air right now taking part in the rescue effort, trying to save whoever they can, because these first hours are critical. If today passes, from tomorrow on it looks like they’ll start collecting bodies, and unfortunately it could be a long time before we find them, if many of them are ever found at all.”
