On Wednesday, August 20, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Russian President Vladimir Putin held a phone conversation to discuss the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
According to a statement from the Turkish presidency, Erdoğan emphasized that Turkey has closely monitored the peace process and has made sincere efforts since the start of the war to achieve a fair and lasting peace. He stressed that Turkey supports initiatives aiming to establish lasting stability with the participation of all parties involved.
President Putin, in turn, expressed his gratitude to Erdoğan for hosting the peace talks in Istanbul between Russian and Ukrainian delegations and acknowledged Turkey’s role in facilitating these discussions.
