Iran’s state-run Fars news agency reported Wednesday that tanker traffic through the Strait of Hormuz had been halted following what it described as an Israeli violation of the ceasefire agreement.
A separate Iranian outlet, Press TV, citing unnamed sources, reported that Tehran would “punish” Israel over attacks against Lebanese Hezbollah carried out in breach of the ceasefire.
Iran’s foreign minister on Wednesday raised what he described as Israeli ceasefire violations in Lebanon during a phone call with Pakistan’s military commander, according to an official statement.
The call came as the human toll from Israeli strikes on Lebanon continued to rise, with at least 89 people reported killed and 722 wounded.
Neither report was independently verified, and no further details were provided regarding the scope or duration of the reported disruption to shipping through the strait, a critical chokepoint through which a significant share of the world’s oil supply passes.
Israel had no immediate public comment on the Iranian reports.
