U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed he had delivered his multi-point peace plan to Ukraine during an interview with American broadcaster Fox on Friday.

Trump confirmed that the reported deadline—27 November—is accurate but added that “depending on how things go, if they go well, an extension could be granted.” Nevertheless, in his characteristic style, he insisted that Thursday is the “right moment” for Russia and Ukraine to reach an agreement.

Among his remarks, he stated that he is not willing to lift the tough sanctions imposed on Russia for the entire duration of the talks. He reiterated his position that Russian President Vladimir Putin “does not want the conflict to continue.”

Without directly addressing Kyiv’s objections to his proposed peace plan for Ukraine, Trump claimed that “we have given them the best military equipment in the world.”

The Trump peace plan caught EU leaders off guard, with many scrambling to reassess their course of action vis-à-vis the conflict in Ukraine.
