Α “brewtiful” phenomenon appeared today on the beaches of southern Crete, which has led to talk of a ‘Cappuccino coast’. The term originates from the foamy substance on the sand and its similarity to the frothy topping of the beloved beverage.

Experts explain that cappuccino coasts are always preceded by the sort of severe winds and intense waves that were experienced in the area over the weekend. The phenomenon is the result of salts, impurities, chemical substances, plankton, algae secretions, decomposition residues from marine flora and fauna and other impurities isolated by the sea’s natural self-cleansing process being churned together to form bubbles which are then beached by waves and build up to create an almost appetizing foamy richness.
