Another Greek Name at the Oscars

Embiricos recently stood out on the red carpet of the 2026 Golden Globe Awards as a producer of The Voice of Hind Rajab, a docudrama directed by Tunisian filmmaker Kaouther Ben Hania.

Yorgos Lanthimos’ Bugonia earned four nominations at this year’s Academy Awards, including the most coveted of all: Best Picture. But Lanthimos was not the only Greek presence in this year’s Oscar race. Another Greek nominee emerged behind the scenes—producer Katherine Embiricos, a figure with a growing international profile and a clear commitment to socially impactful cinema.

Embiricos recently stood out on the red carpet of the 2026 Golden Globe Awards as a producer of The Voice of Hind Rajab, a docudrama directed by Tunisian filmmaker Kaouther Ben Hania. The film received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Foreign Language Film and went on to secure a nomination in the corresponding Academy Award category, now officially titled Best International Feature Film.

Competing alongside The Voice of Hind Rajab in this category are It Was Just an Accident (Iran), Sentimental Value (Norway), Sirāt (Spain), and The Secret Agent (Brazil). All five films have garnered strong critical acclaim and resonated with audiences well beyond their countries of origin.

The Voice of Hind Rajab is built around a harrowing real-life audio document: an emergency phone call made in 2024 by six-year-old Hind from Gaza, trapped in a car under gunfire as she pleaded for help from the Palestinian Red Crescent.

The raw power of the child’s voice and the unfiltered immediacy of the recording form the emotional core of a docudrama that moved audiences from its very first screening. Its premiere at the Venice Film Festival was marked by a historic standing ovation lasting 23 minutes and 50 seconds—the longest ever recorded at a film festival.

Alongside Katherine Embiricos, the film’s list of executive producers includes some of Hollywood’s most influential names: Brad Pitt, Joaquin Phoenix, Rooney Mara, Alfonso Cuarοn, and Jonathan Glazer.
