The temporary exhibition “From Monet to Warhol: Three generations, one collection, a journey through the evolution of Modern Art” continues through April 11, organised by the Basil & Elise Goulandris Foundation in Athens. the beautifully curated walkthrough exhibit featuring 83 pieces of modern and contemporary art, showcasing the history of painting from the impressionist movement all the way to present day.
Featuring key works from iconic artists of the late 19th and 20th century, “From Monet To Warhol” marks the most pivotal moments in art over the past 130 years while also honoring intermediate movements such as Fauvism, Cubism, Abstraction and Surrealism. Many works on display were provided by a private Swiss collection spanning three generations. Notable artists featured include Degas, Munch, Picasso, Toulouse-Lautrec and of course, Claude Monet and Andy Warhol.

Curated by Marie-Koutsomallis-Moreau, Head of Collection at the B&E Goulandris Foundation, this collection was made to “highlights the importance of each collector’s eye and instinct, as well as the desire to narrate the story of art through personal choices”. An extensive trilingual catalogue (Greek, English and French) accompanies the exhibition, featuring detailed entries and scholarly documentation for each work.
While the works featured have individually been presented in major international institutions, it is the first time such an extensive and representative selection has been presented in Greece.

Due to increased visitor attendance, the Museum will operate with extended hours until 20.00 on all weekends in March, as well as on the weekend of April 4 & 5. At the same time, from March 11 until the end of the exhibition, additional guided tours have been scheduled, which will take place starting now every Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
