Megaron in Northern Evia will present a nine-event Lake Festival from August 30 through September 20, bringing music, cinema, dance and lectures to venues across the town of Limni. The program will be followed by two educational programs for elementary school students on September 21. Admission to all events is free.
The festival, which follows its successful launch last year, will take place at the historic Elymnion cinema theater, the Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary, the Limni Nautical Club and the town’s Scala waterfront. Its program ranges from classical and Byzantine music to jazz, Greek song, electronic music and contemporary dance.
Among the highlights is a performance by musicAeterna Byzantina, the acclaimed choir founded and artistically directed by Greek conductor Teodor Currentzis, with Antonios Koutroupis as choirmaster. Other featured events include a concert by composer and performer Evanthia Reboutsika, an audiovisual tribute to Greek composer Vangelis Papathanassiou, and a solo dance performance by Limni native Eirini Anna Georgiou.
Lake Festival schedule
The festival opens August 30 at 9 p.m. at Limni’s Scala waterfront with Evanthia Reboutsika, joined by Sofia Zova. The concert will draw on Reboutsika’s music and traditions from the Eastern Mediterranean.
On August 31 at 8:30 p.m., the Elymnion cinema theater will host a tribute to Vangelis Papathanassiou, featuring live electronic music by Georges Catris and film projections. The program will include excerpts from films whose soundtracks were shaped by the internationally known Greek composer, including Alexander, Chariots of Fire and Blade Runner.
The Hellenic Coast Guard and Port Police Band will perform at the Scala on September 5 at 8:30 p.m., presenting a program that moves from musical theater and jazz to nostalgic melodies from the 1950s and 1960s.

On September 6 at 8:30 p.m., guitarist Kimon Vintzilaios, joined by soprano Antonia Kokkinou, will perform at the Elymnion cinema theater. The recital will focus on Spanish and Latin American composers and music for guitar and voice.
The musicAeterna Byzantina choir will appear at the Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary on September 12 at 7 p.m. under choirmaster Antonios Koutroupis. The program promises a contemplative concert in the church setting.
On September 13 at 8:30 p.m., pianist Miltos Logiadis and accordionist Christos Zerbinos will present Nighttime Confessions at the Elymnion cinema theater, exploring the music of Greek composer Vassilis Tsitsanis, composer Manos Hadjidakis and Greek traditional music.
Dance takes center stage on September 18 at 7 p.m. at the Limni Nautical Club, where Eirini Anna Georgiou will present EVIA FM, a solo choreographic work combining dance and live music. The performance transforms a familiar space into a setting for memory and imagination.
On September 19 at 8:30 p.m., the Scala will host the Two Pianos Jazz Quartet for a program spanning jazz, funk, ragtime, blues, musical theater and opera.
The festival concludes September 20 at 8:30 p.m. at the Elymnion cinema theater with pianist Christos Papageorgiou’s recital and lecture. Using piano and projections, the presentation will explore different musical styles and eras through the Greek song “Sto Perigiali to Kryfo” by Mikis Theodorakis.

Educational programs
The program continues September 21 with two educational sessions for elementary school students.
At the elementary school in Prokopi, members of the Hellenic Coast Guard and Port Police Band will introduce students to the instruments of a concert band.
At the elementary school in Limni, Christos Papageorgiou will lead a session on how music is heard and understood, examining melody, rhythm and harmony across classical music, jazz, pop and film music.
The program is funded by Greece’s Ministry of Culture and implemented in cooperation with the Municipality of Mantoudi-Limni-Agia Anna in Mantoudi, Prokopi, Limni, Agia Anna and Rovies.
