The Greek language is a global cultural capital of more than three millennia, which continues to vie for a role in the future and amid the most sophisticated linguistic codes, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said on Monday, on the occasion of International Greek Language Day.
February 9 has been designated by UNESCO as a celebration of the Greek language as both a national treasure and a global intellectual heritage. International Greek Language Day serves as a reminder of the language’s historical depth, cultural influence, and the ongoing need to inspire new generations to explore its rich literary and philosophical traditions.

He also made a special reference to artificial intelligence (AI), emphasizing the need to “feed” modern digital tools with the fullest range of the Greek language so that technological progress keeps pace with its humanistic significance.
As he said, language is not just a means of communication, but a vehicle for thought, judgment, and democratic functioning.
