Rising Traffic Boosts Returns on GEK TERNA Motorways

Higher vehicle volumes in 2025 across key toll roads underline GEK TERNA’s concessions strategy, strengthening stable cash flows and supporting strong shareholder returns.

Vehicle traffic increased across GEK TERNA’s major motorway concessions in 2025, confirming the group’s strategic focus on infrastructure assets that deliver steady revenues and attractive dividend yields.

GEK TERNA released data comparing average daily traffic (ADT) volumes in 2025 with those recorded in 2024 on three key toll roads under its management: Attiki Odos, Nea Odos and Kentriki Odos. The figures show a clear upward trend in vehicle movements, reinforcing the resilience of motorway concessions as a core pillar of the group’s business model.

Attiki Odos Records Steady Growth

Traffic on Attiki Odos, the main ring road serving the wider Athens metropolitan area, rose by 4.6% in 2025 compared with the previous year. Average daily traffic reached 286,278 vehicles, up from 273,655 in 2024.

The increase comes amid ongoing discussions by Greece’s infrastructure authorities about planned interventions at one of the road’s busiest interchanges, aimed at easing congestion, pending the completion of the necessary technical studies.

Mixed but Strong Performance on New and Central Motorway

On the Nea Odos motorway network, average daily traffic increased by 1.7% year-on-year in 2025, reaching 126,876 vehicle passages. Kentriki Odos recorded an even stronger rise of 12.5%, with average daily traffic climbing to 46,082 vehicles.

Traffic levels on both roads were affected in December by ongoing farmers’ protests, which temporarily disrupted movement. Despite this, full-year figures still showed solid growth.

Strategic Importance of the Motorway Network

Nea Odos includes major motorway sections linking western and central Greece, as well as a key stretch of the main north–south highway connecting Athens to northern Greece. Kentriki Odos covers parts of the Central Greece motorway, commonly known as the E65, which is gradually being expanded to strengthen connectivity between central and northern regions.

Construction of the remaining northern section of the E65 is currently underway, with the goal of completing the route and further enhancing traffic flows and long-term revenue potential.
