Unemployment in Greece eased to 8.2%, according to the latest Labor Force Survey data from ELSTAT for the third quarter of 2025.

The number of employed persons reached 4,402,914, marking an increase of 0.4% compared with the previous quarter and 1.8% compared with the same quarter of the previous year.

The number of unemployed individuals amounted to 393,162, showing a decrease of 4.5% compared with the previous quarter and 8.2% compared with the same quarter of the previous year.

People not included in the labor force — that is, those who are neither working nor seeking work — stood at 4,204,623.

People outside the labor force under the age of 75 amounted to 2,959,279, a number that decreased by 0.2% compared with the previous quarter and by 2.4% compared with the same quarter of the previous year.

The highest rates of unemployment in Greece were observed among women at 10.6%, individuals aged 15–19 (25.1%), the Region of Western Macedonia (16.5%).

The largest share of the labor force is recorded among men, individuals aged 30–44, the South Aegean Region, those with post-secondary education, and foreign nationals.

In the third quarter of 2025, the majority of employed persons worked as salaried employees (72.5%), while 17.3% were self-employed without personnel.

The part-time employment rate stands at 5.0%, showing a decrease of 13.0% from the previous quarter and 19.5% compared with the same quarter of the previous year.

The percentage of workers with temporary employment is 10.6%, recording a decrease of 2.8% from the previous quarter and an increase of 3.3% compared with the same quarter of the previous year.

The occupations with the largest share of employment are service and sales workers (23.5%) and professionals (21.7%). Compared with the previous quarter, the greatest increase is observed among senior managers and administrators (11.1%), while the greatest decrease is seen in skilled agricultural, livestock, forestry, and fishing workers (-6.8%).
