Athens 2nd Olive Oil Forum: Science, Taste, and Strategy

The forum will conclude with a roundtable discussion titled “Action Plan 2026–2030,” outlining the sector’s key conclusions and strategic priorities.

The 2nd Olive Oil Forum will take place in Athens on May 16 under the central theme, “Olive Oil: Production, Research, Innovation — Taste, Health, Consumption.”

According to the organizing committee, the forum aims to move beyond simply cataloguing industry challenges and instead function as a strategic workshop focused on practical solutions. A key objective is to bridge academic research with real-world applications in olive cultivation and processing, while also linking scientific evidence on health benefits with commercial value on retail shelves and consumer dietary choices.

The opening panel will outline the sector’s long-term vision under the theme “Olive Oil 2030: Challenges and Opportunities in a Changing World.”

The first thematic session, on Production, Research and Innovation, will explore the development of the “smart” and climate-resilient olive grove, advances in genetics and research supporting producers, smart farming technologies from drones to mobile applications, and the shift toward zero-waste olive mills within a circular economy model.

The second session, dedicated to Health, Science and Nutrition, will examine the commercial potential of biofunctional foods, clinical evidence positioning olive oil as a therapeutic product, the marketing impact of health claims and labeling regulations, and the role of chefs as ambassadors of gastronomy and well-being.

The third session, focusing on Consumption, Markets and Branding, will address global market expansion strategies, changing consumer preferences toward 2030, export pathways, and branding approaches that elevate olive oil from bulk commodity to value-added product.

The forum will conclude with a roundtable discussion titled “Action Plan 2026–2030,” outlining the sector’s key conclusions and strategic priorities.

Participation in the panels, including presentations and interventions, will be open to all interested stakeholders—industry associations, companies, technical experts, independent professionals, and other participants—upon timely registration.
