Antonis Alexandridis, Greece’s newly appointed ambassador to the United States, presented copies of his credentials on Friday, January 16, to Monica Crowley, the chief of protocol at the State Department, marking the start of his diplomatic duties in Washington.
The meeting took place at the State Department, according to an official announcement, and followed established diplomatic practice for incoming ambassadors.
The presentation of copies of credentials is the initial procedural step that allows an ambassador to begin carrying out his duties, pending the formal presentation of credentials. At a later date, Ambassador Alexandridis is expected to present his credentials to President Donald Trump during a ceremonial meeting at the White House.
