Ruling New Democracy (ND) party appears to have gained a half percentage point in the latest opinion poll results collected and analyzed by the Metron Analysis firm, which were presented on Wednesday evening on the primetime newscast of Mega Channel. The marginal gain compares to the same firm’s poll last month.
An extrapolation of the results shows center-right ND at 28.7%, compared to 12.8% for socialist-social democrat PASOK. The latter is shown as dropping by a 0.8-percentage point within a month.
The right-wing Elliniki Lysi (Greek Solution) party is third, with 11.7%, marginally down from last month, followed by the Communist Party (KKE) at 10% and Zoe Konstantopoulou’s left-wing party, 9.9%.
The outspoken Konstantopoulou, the former Parliament president during the first half of 2015, remains the most popular political leader, garnering positive views from 39% of respondents.
Metron Analysis’ poll shows nine parties entering Parliament if elections were held on Sunday.
At the same time, incumbent Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis continues to dominate on the question of who is most capable for the premier’s post, fielding a 19-percentage point lead over his nearest political rivals, who hover at the 6%-mark.
Asked about the prospect of early elections in the country, 49% of respondents said they favor early elections, while 48% want the next election to take place at the end of the government’s four-year tenure. Moreover, 63% of respondents said a “political change” is necessary for the country’s governance, while 36% of respondents said they prefer “political stability”.
