Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and European Parliament President Roberta Metsola inaugurated the Europa Experience center in Athens, a new interactive venue designed to help visitors better understand how the European Union works and how decisions are made.

Speaking at the opening, Mitsotakis emphasized that meaningful participation is essential to democracy and that it depends on knowledge and genuine interest in public affairs. He noted that the center aims to promote dialogue, critical thinking and engagement with Europe’s future, at a time when misinformation and anti-European narratives are spreading.

Mitsotakis underlined that Europe has raised living standards for millions of citizens but continues to face significant challenges. “We are much stronger when we are united, and the answer is more Europe,” he said, warning against attempts by hostile actors to exploit divisions.

Metsola praised Greece’s progress in recent years, highlighting falling unemployment, renewed investment and growth above the EU average. “I am proud to be here today, and of course I am proud of Greece. You have achieved a remarkable transformation,” she said.

The Europa Experience allows visitors to explore EU institutions through interactive exhibits. They can also take part in a simulation where they assume the role of a Member of the European Parliament for about two hours, debating and voting on draft legislation. The event was attended by EU Commissioner for Sustainable Transport and Tourism Apostolos Tzitzikostas.

Following the inauguration, Mitsotakis met with Metsola at the Prime Minister’s office to discuss economic, social and defense challenges facing the EU. He stressed that the “fluid situation” in Europe requires mature and decisive action, particularly in areas such as competitiveness, energy, defense and migration.

On security, he said the EU must show it takes its own protection seriously. He also reaffirmed Greece’s support for Ukraine and called for a fair and lasting peace. Regarding migration, he emphasized the need for shared responsibility and stronger protection of external borders.
