Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis had a first brief “introductory” meeting, as his office announced on Thursday evening, with the newly appointed US ambassador to Greece, Kimberly Guilfoyle, during a meeting in New York City hosted by the D.C.-based Atlantic Council, which featured an address by the Greek leader.
Guilfoyle, a one-time top Trump adviser and presidential race fund-raiser, will be sworn in on Monday and is expected to arrive in Athens to head the US diplomatic mission at the end of October.
On his part, Mitsotakis addressed what he called the important role that Greece can play as a political, commercial, and energy bridge between India, the Gulf countries and Europe, and as a natural investment destination for the Gulf countries in Europe.
The meeting focused on the theme of deepening cooperation between the EU and the member states of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). The meeting focused on the framework of the Alliance for Europe-Gulf Geopolitics & Investments Summit (AEGIS) initiative.
