Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis met on Wednesday morning with the new U.S. Ambassador to Greece, Kimberly Guilfoyle, at the Maximos Mansion in Athens. The meeting marked one of Guilfoyle’s first official engagements since assuming her post, highlighting the strength and continued expansion of U.S.–Greek relations.
In his opening remarks in front of the cameras, Mitsotakis, emphasized that the bilateral relations between Athens and Washington are “at a historic high.” He noted that there is still room for further progress, citing an extensive agenda covering cooperation in security, energy, and economic development.
“We are very happy to welcome you at a time when Greek-American relations are stronger than ever,” the prime minister said. “Greece is a key regional partner and a steadfast ally of the United States.”
Mitsotakis also underscored Greece’s strategic importance as a “pillar of stability in the Eastern Mediterranean”, while highlighting the country’s growing role in regional energy security, particularly as an entry point for liquefied natural gas (LNG) to Southeastern Europe. “The vertical energy corridor is a project of strategic significance for both our countries, and we look forward to developing it further,” he added.
Beyond energy, Mitsotakis pointed to Greece’s rising appeal among American investors, especially in technology and innovation, and expressed his desire to deepen ties between the two nations’ peoples.

For her part, Ambassador Guilfoyle expressed her gratitude for the warm welcome and praised Greece as “the birthplace of democracy.” “It is an honor and a privilege to be here in your extraordinary country,” she said. “Next year marks 250 years since the U.S. Declaration of Independence, and we look forward to celebrating this historic milestone alongside Greece.”
Guilfoyle also highlighted the presence of a large U.S. delegation in Athens for an international summit, describing it as proof of the partnership’s depth. “All our ministers are here, and we are thrilled about the progress in political and economic cooperation, trade, development, and security,” she said.

Referring to the “3+1” cooperation framework between Greece, Cyprus, Israel, and the United States, Guilfoyle called it “a testament to the strategic collaboration shaping the region.” She also noted the upcoming visit of the U.S. Secretary of the Interior—his second to Greece in recent months—as evidence of Washington’s commitment to advancing shared goals in energy and security.
