A 17-year-old dog named Rocky was rescued after falling into a hole about three meters deep during an evening walk with his owner in Thessaloniki, northern Greece.

The opening in the road had been covered with wooden boards that did not provide sufficient protection.

According to Greece’s public broadcaster, work had previously been carried out at the site, possibly by HEDNO, the Hellenic Electricity Distribution Network Operator.

Rocky escaped from his owner and fell through the opening, prompting the immediate response of the Fire Department.

Firefighters and a volunteer arrived at the scene, descended into the hole and successfully freed the dog.

Rocky was found to be in good health after the rescue.

The operation was also captured on video, showing the rescuers bringing the elderly dog out of the hole and returning him safely to his owner, bringing the frightening incident to a happy end.
