20-year-old Delivery Driver Killed in Crash in Northern Athens

A young food delivery worker lost his life after his motorcycle collided with a car on Athens’ Mesogeion Avenue, as authorities investigate the circumstances of the fatal accident

A 20-year-old delivery rider was killed in a traffic accident early Wednesday morning on Mesogeion Avenue in Agia Paraskevi, a northern suburb of Athens.

The crash occurred shortly after 1 a.m. on the uphill section of Mesogeion Avenue. According to reports, the accident happened when the motorcycle driven by the young delivery worker collided, under circumstances still being investigated, with a car driven by a 29-year-old man.

According to Greece’s public broadcaster ERT, the car struck the delivery rider while attempting to make a left turn, after the driver had been traveling at speed and was unable to stop in time.

The 20-year-old reportedly suffered the loss of a lower limb as a result of the collision.

Traffic police officers rushed to the scene and closed off the area for an extended period, while an investigation is underway to determine the exact causes of the fatal accident.
