A 31-year-old woman was seriously injured while diving at Glyfa beach in Ilia, western Greece, in an incident that occurred in front of her two minor children.
The woman was at the beach with her husband and their children when the accident happened. According to information reported by Patrisnews, the couple had been playing in the water when her husband lifted her onto his shoulders so she could dive and then threw her into the water.
During the dive, the woman was propelled backward and suffered a serious neck injury.
She was initially transported with particular care to General Hospital of Pyrgos. Because of the severity of her injury, doctors determined that she needed to be transferred to the General University Hospital of Patras, where she remains hospitalized.
According to the same sources, her life is not in danger. However, her neck injury is considered particularly serious, and doctors are closely monitoring her condition while working to limit the consequences of the injury.
Following the incident, the woman’s husband was arrested as part of the investigation. Authorities are examining a possible offense involving negligent bodily harm and are investigating the circumstances to establish exactly how the incident occurred.
