33-Year-Old Motorcyclist Killed in Crash in Pieria

The rider died after his motorcycle veered off the road and ended up in an irrigation canal on the old Thessaloniki-Katerini highway.

A 33-year-old motorcyclist was killed in a traffic accident early Wednesday morning in Pieria, northern Greece, after his motorcycle veered off the road and overturned, causing him to fall into an irrigation canal.

The accident occurred under unclear circumstances around 12:30 a.m. on the old Thessaloniki-Katerini National Road, near the area of Methoni.

According to reports, the motorcycle the man was riding suddenly left its course and overturned. The rider was thrown into an irrigation canal, where he suffered fatal injuries.

Firefighters rushed to the scene and recovered the man from the canal. An ambulance from Greece’s National Emergency Aid Center (EKAB) transported him to the General Hospital of Katerini, where doctors confirmed his death.
