Deep sorrow has spread across Rhodes following a fatal traffic accident on Friday morning in the Afantou area, which killed a 25-year-old man who had gone out for a run.

According to reports, he was struck by a passing agricultural vehicle under circumstances still being investigated by police, at a spot locals say sees particularly heavy traffic during morning hours.

The collision was severe and the young man died from his injuries. An EKAB ambulance and police officers arrived quickly at the scene, but paramedics found he had already lost his life.

Traffic police in Rhodes are conducting a preliminary investigation into the exact cause of the accident, examining the circumstances under which the driver of the farm vehicle struck the pedestrian. The local community has expressed deep grief over the loss, describing the young man as especially well-liked on the island.
