An earthquake measuring the 4.2 in magnitude on the Richter scale was reported on Wednesday afternoon off southwest Crete, between the large central Mediterranean island and the North Africa coast in the Libyan Sea.
According to the Athens Observatory’s Geodynamics Institute, the tremor was pinpointed at 24 kilometers southwest of the Paleochora site on the southern coast of Crete, and at a focal depth of 54.8 kilometers.
An earthquake measuring 4.1 in magnitude on the Richter scale was recorded on Monday in roughly the same sea region.
At the time, the Geodynamic Institute said the tremor’s epicenter was located eight kilometers southwest of the Falasarna site, and with a focal depth measured at five kilometers.
