Residents in Athens and other municipalities across Greece can report problems in their neighborhoods with just a few taps on their smartphones, using the free Novoville mobile app.
The digital platform allows citizens to flag issues that disrupt everyday city life—most commonly illegal parking, including vehicles blocking ramps for people with disabilities or stopping in restricted areas for the familiar “just a minute.” Such behavior often causes serious disruptions for drivers and pedestrians alike.
By submitting reports directly through the app, residents can help local authorities address these long-standing urban challenges without needing to visit a municipal office.
A tool for civic participation
Novoville is designed to give citizens a more direct role in improving their city. Hundreds of thousands of residents in Athens and other municipalities across Greece can now report problems quickly and easily through their phones.
Athens Mayor Haris Doukas highlighted the initiative in a social media message, emphasizing that residents’ concerns are received and processed through the platform.
“Athens is listening,” he said. “Through the Novoville app and the 1595 service line, your requests reach us. They are recorded, processed and resolved—for a city that responds every day.”
Illegal parking among top complaints
Illegal parking remains the most frequently reported issue. For years, it has been one of the city’s most persistent problems, affecting traffic flow and pedestrian mobility.
The reporting process through the app takes only a few minutes. Users can track the progress of their report, receiving updates until the issue is resolved.
How the reporting process works
Residents who want to submit a report first download the Novoville app from the Apple App Store or Google Play.
After registering with an email address, users select their municipality and location before submitting a “New Report.” One example category is illegal parking.
Users can describe the issue and upload a photo to help authorities identify the exact location.
Reports are then forwarded to the municipal police, while residents receive updates on the status of their request until it is fully addressed.
Real-time updates and a phone alternative
Those registered on Novoville can also monitor how many requests have been resolved, how many remain pending and how many are currently in progress through the platform.
Athens residents also have access to a 24-hour municipal service line by calling 1595 (or 210-528-7800), allowing them to report similar issues by phone if they prefer not to use the app.
The Novoville mobile app is already used by municipalities across Greece, from Volos in central Greece to Ioannina in the northwest, allowing residents to report everyday urban problems directly to local authorities.
