Public nursery schools and kindergartens in Athens will remain closed on Wednesday due to extreme weather conditions expected in the coming hours.
The City of Athens has been placed on high alert, with municipal services prepared to intervene where necessary to limit disruption and ensure public safety.
It is reminded that all schools in Athens will be closed on Wednesday following an earlier decision by the Region of Attica, with lessons to be conducted via teleclasses. Attica is among five regions expected to be most affected by the severe weather, with authorities warning of a heightened risk of flooding.
Shelters Open Across the City
The municipality is opening heated spaces to offer temporary shelter and support to vulnerable residents. The Agios Eleftherios Friendship Club (372 Acharnon St, tel. 210-2012334) will provide temporary accommodation, food and basic care services. Additional warming shelter will be available at the Votanikos Friendship Club (4 Kozanis St, tel. 210-3423716).
The city’s Street Work teams will operate around the clock, distributing hot drinks, meals, clothing and blankets across Athens. Assistance will also be provided to individuals who need help reaching the Dormitory of the Multipurpose Homeless Center, which will remain open to offer shelter, food and support services.
Residents and visitors are urged to avoid unnecessary travel while the severe weather persists and to refrain from parking vehicles in areas prone to flooding or water accumulation.
For assistance or to report problems, citizens can contact the municipal hotline on 1595 (charges may apply depending on provider), call 210-5277066, or submit requests via the Novoville app.
