The Municipality of Athens is supporting vulnerable families this Easter with the distribution of festive goods, aiming to ensure that no child is left without the joy of the season.
On Holy Monday, April 6, Easter items were distributed to 70 children from beneficiary families at the Citizen Mutual Aid Hub of the city’s Reception and Solidarity Center (KYADA), in the presence of Mayor Haris Doukas. According to the municipality, the initiative will continue throughout Holy Week, with more than 1,000 children expected to receive gifts.
Mayor Doukas highlighted the importance of solidarity, noting that for many families, traditional Easter items such as sweet bread, (traditional Easter tsoureki), candles, or children’s books are not a given but small luxuries. He stressed the city’s commitment to ensuring that all residents can experience the spirit of the holiday.
KYADA President Nikos Chrysogelos emphasized the collective effort behind the initiative, noting that with the support of donors and citizens, more than 45,000 aid packages have already been distributed through similar programs.
The initiative underscores Athens’ ongoing efforts to support those most in need, particularly during the holiday season.
