A body in an advanced state of decomposition was found at sea about four nautical miles west of Naxos, according to the Greek Coast Guard.
The body was recovered by a Coast Guard vessel and is being transported to the port of Naxos, where the required procedures will be carried out.
According to Greece’s Athens-Macedonian News Agency, citing Coast Guard information, the body was wearing a diving suit and fins when it was found.
Identification not yet possible
Authorities have so far been unable to identify the body because it is in an advanced state of decomposition.
The competent Coast Guard authorities are expected to take all necessary steps to determine the circumstances in which the body was found and establish its identity.
The investigation remains ongoing.
