The discovery of a 55-year-old Canadian woman’s body in an abandoned building in the Agia Triada area of Heraklion, Crete, has raised concern among local residents. According to authorities, the initial autopsy indicates that the woman had been deceased for one to two months.
Local residents reported noticing a strange odor in the neighborhood since New Year’s, but the abandoned building—frequented by people seeking shelter—had not been investigated until recently. Witnesses described the woman as homeless, who had never caused any trouble in the area.
While authorities continue to investigate, criminal activity appears unlikely. Efforts are underway to notify the Canadian embassy in Athens and locate any surviving relatives.
