A tragic discovery was made on the beach of Edem in Palaio Faliro, a southern suburb of Athens, where the body of a young girl, estimated to be around threeyears old, was found washed ashore, on July 26.
According to police reports, a 33-year-old Egyptian national called the emergency number 112 on Saturday night to report the grim incident. He stated that the lifeless body of a small child had been brought in by the sea.
Emergency services responded immediately. A team was dispatched to the scene, and an ambulance of the National Emergency Aid Center (EKAV) transported the child’s body to the Agia Sofia Children’s Hospital in Athens, where her death was officially confirmed.
Authorities are now searching through missing children databases in an attempt to identify the girl, but as of now, no match has been found.
The Hellenic Coast Guard has taken over the preliminary investigation and is working closely with the Hellenic Police (EL.AS) to determine the circumstances surrounding the child’s death.
