Greek authorities have arrested three young men in connection with the death of a 58-year-old driver in Neos Kosmos, Athens, following a violent assault inside his car. Initial reports suggesting a heart attack as the cause of death are now considered unlikely.
Police initially detained four individuals, three of whom were later formally arrested. Investigations revealed that two Greek men and an Albanian were following the victim in two motorcycles. At an undetermined point, one of the men allegedly attacked the driver, repeatedly striking him.
According to witness accounts under examination by authorities, the assailant grabbed the 58-year-old’s head and slammed it multiple times against the steering wheel. When officers arrived at the scene, the car interior was reportedly covered in blood, and the windshield had been damaged.
Based on these findings, investigators now believe the man died from severe head trauma rather than a medical condition.
In addition to the three main suspects, the father of one of the young men was also arrested. Police said he attempted to hide his son’s motorcycle during a home search, an act that led to his detention.
Authorities noted that all three primary suspects had previous encounters with law enforcement for various offenses. The investigation into the full circumstances surrounding the attack is ongoing.
