A shocking revelation reminiscent of Hollywood thriller was reported this week from the town of Psachna, in the north of the large island of Evia, with press reports stating that exhumation of a body at the local graveyard a pair of surgical scissors was discovered amongst the corpse’s remains.
The body belonged to a 46-year-old local man who died and was interred in 2020.
Authorities must now determine if the medical instrument was actually left in the body after a surgery or if the discovery is part of a highly macabre hoax.
The incident came to light a few days ago when the legally required burial period expired (usually three years in Greece) and the exhumation was carried out. Cemetery workers were shocked to find the metallic object, which was described as surgical scissors.
Police and judicial investigators are now focusing on the deceased man’s medical history in order to identify previously hospitalizations and procedures, while also attempting to trace the scissors.
