Greece’s weather over the August 15 holiday weekend is expected to bring slightly cooler conditions, strong northerly winds known locally as meltemia, and the chance of showers or thunderstorms in certain areas, according to the Hellenic National Meteorological Service.

On Thursday, August 14, temperatures will ease from the recent heat, though most of the country will remain sunny. Highs will reach around 34°C in northern and eastern mainland regions, 37°C in western Greece, and up to 37°C in parts of the Aegean. Winds will blow from the north, reaching 6–7 Beaufort in the Aegean and 3–5 Beaufort in the Ionian.

In Athens, mostly sunny skies are forecast with a high of 32°C and northerly winds up to 7 Beaufort in the east. Thessaloniki will be sunny, turning cloudy in the afternoon, with highs also around 32°C.

Former Hellenic National Meteorological Service director Theodoros Kolydas noted that winds will briefly weaken on Thursday but strengthen again from Friday afternoon, with the northern Aegean seeing gusts of 7–8 Beaufort, continuing into Saturday.

On Friday, August 15, weather will remain mostly clear nationwide, with some morning cloud in northern and eastern mainland regions and the island of Evia, where light showers are possible. Temperatures will range between 33–36°C inland and 29–32°C in the Aegean.

Saturday will be mostly sunny, though afternoon cloud may develop in the northern Ionian and mainland areas, bringing local showers in the northwest mountains. Strong winds will persist in the Aegean, locally reaching 8 Beaufort, while temperatures will remain stable.

Sunday is forecast to be generally clear, but with afternoon cloud in northern mainland areas and the possibility of showers or isolated storms in the northwest highlands.
