A car falling into the sea off Agios Antonios in Neapoli Lasithiou triggered a large mobilization of authorities.
According to initial information from patris.gr, the vehicle ended up in the water under circumstances that remain unclear. The fire department was alerted at 7:36 a.m. after residents called in reporting the car in the sea.
Seven fire department vehicles from Agios Nikolaos rushed to the scene, along with a specialized rescue vehicle, while two EMAK special rescue teams were deployed from Heraklion to assist with the search.
More than 15 people took part in the operation, with the search initially focused on the interior of the vehicle to determine whether anyone was trapped inside.
No One Found Trapped
A search carried out by EMAK divers found no one inside the car, according to information available so far.
The vehicle is roughly half submerged, with its chassis and the two rear wheels visible above the surface.
The circumstances under which the car ended up in the sea remain unknown and are being examined by the relevant authorities.
