New reports have surfaced regarding the professional activities of the doctors involved in the case of late singer Giorgos Mazonakis.
According to reports, the female doctor was in the process of opening a second clinic also in Kolonaki, Central Athens.
She had begun equipping the second facility, although, according to reports, just a few months earlier she had requested that its operation be suspended through the Athens Medical Association (ISA). Specifically, in 2025, the doctors requested that the new premises be opened as a medical clinic. In April 2026, however, the doctor, through her lawyer, requested that the license be revoked, a request that was accepted by the ISA.
As a result, the premises should neither have been operating nor undergoing equipment installation.
Nevertheless, in recent months, the space, which appeared to belong to the doctor’s middle daughter, began to be equipped. Hypnotherapy, hydrotherapy, screens and administrative support were among the new features.
The secretary at the original clinic revealed what was taking place at the new premises and whether preparations to equip the space had begun. It would not be “a medical clinic, but it could have been a ‘Center for Alternative Therapies,’” she said. She further clarified that there were no nurses at the premises, only administrative staff.
Two secretaries, a man and a woman, had also been hired at a location that had been removed from the Athens Medical Association’s map of registered medical facilities.
Could the Athens Medical Association have detected this? The answer is no, as no on-site inspection is conducted following a license revocation unless a complaint is filed alleging illegal operation.
The secretary also recalled that the premises had been declared as the registered location for MIRACELL equipment, although there were no signs indicating its presence.
Phone Records Under Microscope
New evidence is also expected to emerge after a judicial council ordered Tuesday that communications records from the two doctors, three employees and Mazonakis himself at the clinic be examined.
The judges on the council, following a favorable recommendation from the prosecutor, approved the request submitted by the investigating judge and ordered the lifting of communications confidentiality for six phones, as well as seized electronic material. The period covered by the order runs from July 11, 2026, through September 10, 2026, the day after the singer’s death.
“Mazonakis is not well”
Meanwhile, a nurse who was at the clinic described the moments of panic that followed the incident, saying in her testimony that the doctor shouted: “Mazonakis is not well.”
The nurse, who has worked at the clinic for about a year and a half, testified that there was no clock in the facility, meaning staff did not know the exact time of events. She also explained that she had not testified during the preliminary investigation because authorities had not called her.
According to her testimony, she was at the clinic during the plasmapheresis procedure undergone by the singer. She said she repeatedly went in and out of the room where the procedure was taking place to assist the doctor.
She said she entered the room where Giorgos Mazonakis was twice over a period of about half an hour, together with another nurse. The two nurses, she said, assisted with procedural matters, which she described as part of their daily duties.
The nurse said the singer “was functioning normally and was well at the beginning of the treatment, but the next times I entered the room, he did not look the same. However, I could not understand that something was happening to him.”
“When the incident occurred, the doctor went to her husband and said, ‘Mazonakis is not well,’ and panic broke out. An ambulance arrived, and we found it strange that neither of the two doctors accompanied Giorgos Mazonakis to the hospital,” the nurse said.
She also stressed that “none of the nurses had understood what had happened to him. We all thought he had left the clinic in good condition. We found out what had happened at around 6 p.m. from news websites. We also exchanged messages with one another, asking whether we would go to work the next day. We had not realized what had happened.”
