A high-stakes robbery unfolded in Katerini, northern Greece, when two thieves stole a car loaded with jewelry valued at around €300,000.
The victim, a 54-year-old jewelry salesman, had stopped at a gas station on the old Katerini-Thessaloniki highway Thursday evening to check his tire pressure. While attending to the vehicle, a car carrying two suspects approached. One of the assailants jumped into the driver’s seat of the victim’s car and drove off.
The man tried to stop the thieves by holding onto the driver-side window, but after about 200 meters, he was thrown into another vehicle, suffering fractures and requiring hospital treatment in Katerini.
Authorities reported that the stolen car was later found abandoned and burned along the highway, near the 45th kilometer heading toward Thessaloniki.
Police from Katerini’s Crime Investigation Unit have launched an inquiry and are actively searching for leads to locate and arrest the perpetrators.
