Driver Arrested After Gun Threat in Athens Road Rage Incident

Police arrested a 34-year-old man after he allegedly threatened another driver with a blank-firing pistol following a heated argument on a major Athens avenue

A 34-year-old man was arrested in Athens after allegedly threatening another driver with a gun during a road rage incident on one of the city’s busiest avenues.

The confrontation took place on Wednesday afternoon at the intersection of Vouliagmenis Avenue and Ilias Iliou Street, where two drivers reportedly became involved in a heated argument that quickly escalated.

According to police information, the suspect allegedly pulled out a blank-firing pistol and threatened the other driver before fleeing the scene.

Officers from the DIAS motorcycle police unit were immediately alerted and launched a search operation. The suspect was later located driving near the Athens Concert Hall on Vasilissis Sofias Avenue.

Police said the man resisted arrest, but officers managed to immobilize and detain him. Authorities confiscated a blank-firing pistol, a magazine and 11 cartridges found in his possession.

The suspect was taken before a prosecutor and faces charges related to weapons law violations, threats and violence against police officers.
