Elderly Couple Die in Apparent Gas Leak

The existence of a toxic gas leak was further reinforced by the fact that the bodies of the couple’s two dogs were also found, lifeless, inside the residence

The bodies of an elderly couple, both 79, were discovered inside their residence in the western Attica working-class city of Elefsina on Thursday, with initial reports pointing to a toxic level gas leak as the cause of death.

No foul play is suspected at this point.

The existence of a toxic gas leak was further reinforced by the fact that the bodies of the couple’s two dogs were also found, lifeless, inside the residence.

Nevertheless, an investigation by law enforcement authorities is continued, especially in order to rule out the possibility of carbon monoxide poisoning or another type of poisoning.

Reports didn’t specify whether the leak was from a natural gas line or from propane gas.

The port city of Elefsina lies due west of the greater Athens-Piraeus area.
