Engine Failure Strands 950 Passengers on Ferry Departing from Piraeus

The ferry operator has announced that it will make alternative arrangements to transport all passengers to their intended destinations

Nearly 1,000 passengers were left stranded on Sunday morning at the Port of Piraeus after a mechanical failure on the ferry Poseidon halted its scheduled journey to the Saronic Gulf islands of Aegina and Agistri.

The vessel, which was carrying 950 passengers along with 40 cars, 35 motorcycles, and three buses, was unable to depart due to a malfunction in its left main engine. The breakdown caused significant delays and frustration among travelers waiting to begin their trip to the nearby islands.

According to local sources, the ship’s departure was cancelled shortly before it was set to leave, after the mechanical issue made it impossible to set sail safely.

The ferry operator has announced that it will make alternative arrangements to transport all passengers to their intended destinations. No injuries or safety incidents were reported.
