Five Arrested After Thessaloniki Disturbance and Police Clash

Police say the men assaulted a 60-year-old man who complained about excessive noise before allegedly threatening and attacking officers who responded to the incident.

Five men, aged between 27 and 42, were arrested in Thessaloniki after an incident involving a 60-year-old foreign national who had complained about excessive noise and a subsequent confrontation with police, authorities said.

The arrests were carried out by officers from the Thessaloniki Directorate and the Department for Crime Prevention and Suppression.

According to police, the five men face charges, depending on their individual involvement, including violence against public officials and judicial personnel, disobedience, bodily harm, threats, verbal abuse, property damage, assisting a prisoner in escaping and disturbing the peace.

Police called to disturbance

In the early hours of August 16, 2026, police officers went to the Foinikas area following a complaint about a disturbance and an earlier incident.

Police said that, upon their arrival, the five men insulted and threatened the officers, refused to comply with their instructions and moved toward them in a threatening manner while using physical violence. They also attempted to flee.

The officers managed to restrain and arrest all five men.

During the operation, one of the suspects, a 40-year-old man, helped another person escape from the scene and avoid arrest.

One police officer was injured during the incident, while a police vehicle sustained minor damage.

60-year-old man assaulted

Shortly before police arrived, the suspects had assaulted a 60-year-old foreign national who had complained about the disturbance and excessive noise.

Police also said they found and confiscated 15 shotgun shells, a speaker, an amplifier and a mixer at the scene.

The five arrested men are expected to be brought before the appropriate judicial authorities.
