Two men remain in serious condition KAT Hospital in Athens with severe burns after the gas explosion at a workshop in Aspropyrgos, a western suburb of Athens, Thursday morning.
Specifically, a 49-year-old man suffered burns covering 75% of his body, while a 54-year-old man sustained burns covering 90% of his body.
At least 11 people were injured in the incident, while the fire spread rapidly to nearby buildings.

The most likely cause of the explosion is believed to have been the ignition of gas leaking from a tanker truck that was inside the workshop. Authorities suspect that one of the men may have lit a flame, possibly a cigarette or to make coffee, near the gas leak, triggering the explosion.
After the indicient, authorities arrested the owner of the workshop and the operator of the tanker truck. A preliminary investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the fire.
