A 48-year-old French woman died after losing consciousness while swimming at a hotel pool, as police investigate the circumstances and examine possible negligence.

A 48-year-old French tourist has died after losing consciousness while swimming in the pool of a hotel in the coastal village of Petalidi in southern Greece, authorities said.

The woman was found unresponsive in the hotel’s swimming pool, prompting guests and staff to immediately alert emergency services. Paramedics attempted to revive her before transporting her to Kalamata General Hospital, where doctors confirmed her death.

According to initial information, the woman lost consciousness while swimming. Despite the efforts of emergency responders, she could not be saved.

As part of the investigation, police arrested the 64-year-old legal representative of the company operating the hotel on suspicion of negligent homicide. Authorities are also searching for the lifeguard, who was reportedly supervising another swimming pool within the hotel complex at the time of the incident.

The Messini Police Department has launched a preliminary investigation to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the woman’s death.
