Port authorities have imposed sailing bans and route suspensions at several Greek ports on Thursday, February 5, due to strong winds affecting sea travel.
In particular, ferry services from the port of Rafina to the Cyclades have been suspended, while routes from Lavrio to the islands of Kea and Kythnos are also not operating. Services from Agia Marina in Marathon to Nea Styra have likewise been cancelled.
Major delays in Piraeus
According to Greece’s state broadcaster ERT, significant delays are being recorded at the port of Piraeus, with some departures postponed by up to five hours. At least two large passenger and vehicle ferries scheduled to depart in the morning have been pushed back until after midday, and sailings will proceed only if weather conditions improve.
A decision is still pending for another morning departure originally scheduled for 9:00 am, with authorities assessing whether the journey can proceed or will also need to be delayed.
In the Saronic Gulf, high-speed vessels are not operating, while conventional ferries are running at the discretion of ship captains and depending on weather conditions.
Meanwhile, in northern Greece, a sailing ban remains in force on the Kavala–Prinos route.
Port authorities are expected to issue an updated advisory at 12:00, depending on how weather conditions develop.
