Greece Launches Digital Skills Program for Seniors and Disabled

Training will cover communication apps, online payments, government services via gov.gr, and social media platforms.

Applications are now open for Greece’s pilot initiative, “Digital Education and Empowerment for Seniors and People with Disabilities,” targeting citizens aged 65 and over and individuals with a disability rate of 50% or higher.

The national program aims to establish a countrywide network of digital training, equipping thousands of participants with essential skills to navigate everyday life in the digital era.

Training will cover communication apps, online payments, government services via gov.gr, and social media platforms. The initiative seeks to combat digital exclusion and ensure meaningful participation for all citizens in modern digital society. Funded by the Recovery Fund, the program is jointly implemented by the Ministries of Social Cohesion and Family and Digital Governance.

Interested applicants can submit their requests through empower.gov.gr using their personal TaxisNet credentials until March 15, 2026 (11:59 pm). Applications may be submitted directly by the participant or through an authorized representative. For individuals with disabilities, submission via a representative is allowed, with the required documentation attached.

Each applicant may submit only one application per municipality, selecting Digital Empowerment Hubs in order of preference. Placement will be determined by the timestamp of the submission. Courses will be conducted in person, and participants must attend at least 80% of sessions to receive a Certificate of Completion.

Eligibility criteria are clear: citizens turning 65 in 2026 (born in 1961 or earlier) and individuals with a disability of 50% or more. Specialized digital assistants will support the latter group across 74 hubs nationwide, aiming to empower up to 2,800 beneficiaries. Participants who qualify under both categories may submit a single application, selecting the program strand that best applies.

This initiative marks a significant step toward bridging the digital divide in Greece, ensuring that seniors and people with disabilities gain the tools to stay connected and informed.
