Another worrying case of revenge porn was reported in Greece over the recent period and the second such instance in 2024, with the latest case involving a young woman from the port city of Piraeus. According to reports, the young woman had been victimized for six years, beginning at the age of 14, by the man eventually convicted of distributing revenge porn.

According to reports by MEGA TV, the young woman – while still a minor – began exchanging online messages with a 22-year-old man via social media some six years ago. The exchanges were initially friendly but quickly turned sinister and threatening, as he reportedly told her that he would humiliate her, find and rape her if she did not send him lude photographs.

Reports state that he told her, “If I don’t see you dead, I will not stop. First, I will kill you and then I will kill myself to avoid going to jail.”

The young woman told authorities that she acquiesced at the time out of fear. The convicted perpetrator, now 28, is accused of creating fake online accounts depicting the victim and uploaded the lude photos there.

The now 20-year-old woman eventually informed her parents and contacted the authorities. The perpetrator has been convicted three times for various offenses in the first instance but allegedly continues to threaten not only the young victim but also her family,  despite a restraining order against him.

She explained to MEGA TV that “when I returned home he would be hiding in the alleyways. He attacked me many times. I told him that I didn’t want anything else from him, that I am young. He never accepted that. He told me, ‘since I am not with you then no one else will be with you.’ I admit that I sent those photos and it was wrong, but I didn’t know what else to do. He also tried to kill my mother and even chased her with an ax to kill her.”

Public opinion in Greece was shocked last January when a 13-year-old girl and boy from the large island of Crete were arrested and accused of using an artificial intelligence program to alter photos of two fellow pupils to depict them in sexually explicit images, before distributing them to other classmates.
