Greece Weather: Storms to Hit North Before Skies Clear

Rain and scattered thunderstorms are expected across northern and eastern Greece on Thursday before conditions improve, with warmer and mostly sunny weather returning on Friday

A brief change in the weather is expected on Thursday, with conditions primarily affecting northern and eastern Greece, according to the Hellenic National Meteorological Service (HNMS).

The forecast calls for rain and scattered thunderstorms beginning in the morning across Central and Eastern Macedonia, Thrace, Thessaly, the Sporades islands, and the northeastern Aegean Sea. Wet weather is also expected to affect Evia (Euboea) and eastern Central Greece.

As the day progresses, conditions are expected to gradually improve, with the rain and thunderstorms ending by the evening. Elsewhere in the country, skies will be mostly clear, although clouds are expected to build over the mountains of Epirus, western Central Greece, the Peloponnese, and Crete during the afternoon and evening, where brief showers are possible.

Winds will blow from the west and northwest at 3 to 5 Beaufort, while in eastern areas they will shift to the north and northeast at 4 to 6 Beaufort.

Temperatures will see a slight decrease, mainly across central and northern Greece. Highs are expected to reach 30–32°C (86–90°F) in northern mainland regions, while the rest of the country and the Aegean islands will see temperatures ranging from 32–34°C (90–93°F).

Friday Forecast

Mostly sunny weather is expected across almost the entire country on Friday, with some localized cloud cover early in the morning over eastern Thessaly, the Sporades, and Evia.

During the afternoon and evening, temporary cloud development is expected over mainland Greece and the mountainous areas of Crete. Isolated showers are possible, mainly over the mountains of Central Greece, the Peloponnese, and Crete.

Winds will blow from the north and northwest at 3 to 5 Beaufort, reaching up to 6 Beaufort in parts of the southeastern seas.

Temperatures will rise slightly, reaching 30–33°C (86–91°F) across the islands and Thrace, and 33–35°C (91–95°F) in the rest of mainland Greece.
