Greek police have dismantled an organised drug trafficking ring that was operating inside the Zografou University campus in Athens, authorities said on Saturday, following a coordinated operation carried out on Jan. 30.

Officers from the Athens Crime Investigation and Detection Subdirectorate arrested four men aged 22, 27, 36 and 49. Prosecutors have opened a criminal case against them for violations of Greece’s narcotics laws.

Police said searches carried out at the suspects’ homes led to the seizure of more than 6 kilograms of raw cannabis, 24.5 grams of cocaine, 24,595 euros in cash, eight mobile phones, two laptops and a motorcycle believed to have been used in the group’s activities.

According to a statement from the Hellenic Police, a months-long investigation revealed that the suspects had formed an organised criminal group with clearly defined roles and continuous activity, operating at least since September 2025. The group’s objective was the distribution of raw cannabis within the Zografou University campus, one of Greece’s largest higher education complexes.

Investigators said a key element of the group’s operation was the establishment of a fixed drug-selling point near the university’s student dormitories, inside a wooded park area. The location was chosen to make detection by authorities more difficult.

Police identified the 27-year-old suspect as the leader of the organisation. He allegedly visited the drug-selling point several times a day to supervise transactions, monitor stock levels and collect proceeds from sales. Authorities said he also supplied narcotics to the 49-year-old suspect, who was responsible for on-site distribution.

The remaining suspects are believed to have played supporting roles in the storage, transportation and facilitation of drug sales, police added.

The arrested men are expected to be brought before a prosecutor in the coming days.
