Greek Red Cross Issues Emergency Call for Food Donations to Aid Fire Victims

Thousands of residents and locals have been displaced as fires continue to burn across in Greece. High fire risk for 13 regions on Thursday.

The Hellenic Red Cross has issued an urgent appeal for food donations to support families and individuals affected by the devastating wildfires that have swept across Greece in recent days.

The organization is calling on the public to offer long-lasting food items such as:

  • Flour
  • Pasta
  • Legumes
  • Evaporated milk and milk powder (for children)
  • Canned goods of all kinds
  • Cereals
  • Rusks

Donations can be dropped off from Monday to Friday, between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. at:

“Following the extensive devastation caused by the wildfires that continue to burn across the country, the Hellenic Red Cross is expanding its relief efforts to bring immediate aid to those in need,” the organization said in a statement.

Wildfires remain active in multiple regions, with flare-ups and evacuations ordered on Zakynthos, Achaia, Preveza, Kefalonia, Epirus, and Chios.

According to the Fire Department’s latest risk map, a level 4 (orange) fire alert is in place for Thursday, August 14, for Attica, Boeotia, Argolida, Evros, Rodopi, Evia, Fthiotida, Corinth, Xanthi, Samothrace, Thassos, Limnos, and Skyros. Authorities urge residents and visitors to remain alert and follow official instructions in case of fire emergency.
