Ships across Greece will remain docked on February 28, 2026, as the Panhellenic Seamen’s Federation (PNO) stages a 24-hour nationwide strike to mark three years since the deadly Tempi train crash.
The strike will affect all categories of vessels, beginning at 00:01 and lasting until midnight. The decision was taken by the federation’s executive committee during a meeting held earlier this week.
Tribute to the 57 Victims
The industrial action commemorates the 57 passengers who lost their lives in the February 28, 2023 railway disaster in Tempi — a tragedy that shocked Greece and sparked widespread debate about safety standards in public transport.
In a statement, the seafarers’ union said the walkout is intended as a tribute to the victims and a reminder that strict adherence to safety regulations is non-negotiable.
“Safety Is a Vital Priority”
The federation stressed that those working at sea understand firsthand the importance of safety rules and protocols. It noted that when such measures are ignored, the consequences can be tragic — not only in maritime transport but also in land and air travel.
