Greek Theatre Workers Announce 24-Hour Strike on Feb 20

Actors, other theatre staff in Greece will stage a nationwide 24-hour strike on February 20, demanding collective labor agreements after 13 years of stalled negotiations with theatre producers, while essential safety and communication staff remain on duty

Greek theatre workers are set to stage a nationwide 24-hour strike on Friday, February 20, demanding the signing of collective labor agreements that have been stalled for over a decade.

The strike, called by the Panhellenic Federation of Stage and Audio-Visual Workers (POEA), will affect actors, technicians, and all other staff involved in independent theatre productions. The only exceptions are security personnel, ticket office staff, and communications teams responsible for public updates.

The federation emphasizes that the strike is a constitutionally protected right, warning that replacing striking workers or hiring strikebreakers is strictly prohibited. The call to action urges all theatre employees to participate actively in the demonstrations to push for fair labor agreements.

This follows a previous strike on December 27, 2025, where theatre employees staged an “on-stage protest” to highlight the ongoing lack of progress in negotiations with theatre producers. Despite lengthy discussions, the producers have repeatedly blocked efforts for a meaningful agreement, prompting workers to escalate their demands.
