A 62-year-old hiker was rescued early on Tuesday morning after a long overnight operation in a forested area of the Kalavryta municipality, in the mountainous Achaia region of the northern Peloponnese, where he had been seriously injured in a fall from a cliff.
According to the Fire Service, the Operations Center received a call on Monday evening through the 112 emergency number from the injured man himself, who was at the Volemia Arkoudi location in the area of Kertezi.
His immediate geolocation allowed 21 firefighters to be mobilized from the Kalavryta Fire Service, the 6th EMAK special disaster response unit and the 6th EMODE mountain rescue unit, with a helicopter also taking part in the operation.

Difficult conditions, poor visibility in the dark and the steep terrain meant the helicopter could not reach the site from the air.
Ground crews worked through the night across the rough terrain. After a coordinated effort they reached the injured man and carried him out on a stretcher, according to Kalavrytanews.com. An ambulance then took him to Kalavryta General Hospital.
Local residents assisted the firefighters throughout the operation.
